10 2020-Concerts We Hope To See In 2021
We can’t even start to name all the concerts and festivals that we were looking forward to last year. From classic rockers like Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones to pop idols like Taylor Swift and Rihanna; many tours were announced and 2020 was going to be an amazing live music year.
What 2020 concert were you most excited about?
Perhaps a gig by one of these artists?
10. Lana Del Rey
Being a true hipster, Lana Del Rey cancelled gigs in 2020 before it was common.
Due to illness she had to cancel her European and UK Norman Fucking Rockwell Tour in February.
Presuming she has recovered by now (and a first booking at Bonnaroo Festival seems to confirm that) we’re looking forward to some new dates!
9. Gorillaz
By releasing their latest project Song Machine, the hunger for seeing Gorillaz live went through the roof in 2020. But luckily, Damon Albarn and his virtual friends have announced some new gigs for 2021.
Rock Werchter in Belgium, the O2 in London, Primavera in Spain… Germany, Denmark, Australia, Russia, Portugal, do we need to continue? They’ll be back!
8. Kendrick Lamar
King Kendrick was ready to headline basically all the big stages in 2020. Among them, one of the biggest and most prestigious ones: Glastonbury! Sadly, Glastonbury has been cancelled again this year, but let’s stay optimistic and wish for other opportunities to see Mr. Lamar on a stage this year.
Is it too much to ask to also wish for the release of the new album?
7. Rage Against the Machine
After nine long years, Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk were ready to hit the road again and give the world a good old dose of Rage Against the Machine.
Take the excitement from 2019 - when the rumours about a reunion tour were confirmed - and add some bottled up energy (and frustration) from 2020, and this can only become the most explosive comeback in recent live music history.
6. Adele
After selling 120 million records worldwide, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins MBE, yes Adele, said that she might never be on stage again. However, somewhere in 2018 and 2019 rumours about a fourth album and new concerts in 2020 arose.
But… nothing happened.
2021 then perhaps?
Hello?
5. Elton John
A legendary icon, in the middle of his last tour after being on the road for half a century.
The man deserves to finish his tour and his impressive career in style.
On stage, in a packed stadium.
Farewell Yellow Brick Road, farewell Sir Elton.
4. Alanis Morissette
The 25th anniversary tour of her most celebrated album Jagged Little Pill was in full swing, when That-What-Must-Not-Be-Named pooped the party.
But don’t worry, the first new dates have already been planned, so the party will continue!
Celebrating the 25th anniversary after 26 years, isn’t it ironic?
3. The Strokes
There are not that many chances to see The Strokes live, especially outside of the US. After releasing the first album in 7 years and announcing new gigs all over the world, fans got excited.
However, 2020 got in the way and fans had to accept a new reality. The title of the album kind of predicted it: The New Abnormal.
But don’t despair, we’ll see them again.
Someday.
2. Run the Jewels
One of the best received, and certainly one of the most relevant albums of a turbulent 2020 was RTJ4; the fourth album of El-P and Killer Mike, a.k.a. Run the Jewels.
What else do you need than a great new album (featuring guests like Rage Against The Machine’s Zack de la Rocha, Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, soul legend Mavis Staples, and Happy Neptune Pharrell)?
Exactly, live gigs!
1. Bruce Springsteen
After six years, Bruce Springsteen released an impressive new album in 2020 together with his beloved E Street Band. So now, more than ever, we can’t wait to see that bunch live on stage again!
The album Letter To You almost sounds like a goodbye letter, but Bruce - just so you know - we’re not accepting that. You’re only 71, so you can easily make a few more albums and tour the world a few more times...
And even after that, you can still run for president.
You’re The Boss after all.
