5 Historical Concerts During the Covid Pandemic
Live concerts, we couldn't get enough of them. But then… the Covid-19 pandemic struck and suddenly we had nowhere to go.. Or did we?
Even during the pandemic, some concerts took place. In general not in a way we used to or as we would prefer, but it might surprise you that there have been some great concerts. After all, dealing with unprecedented circumstances pushes musicians, organisers and producers to come up with the most creative ideas!
Just have a look at the list, you’ll be amazed by some of these concerts!
Which Covid concert will you never forget?
5. Drive-In Concerts
As we said, having to adapt to new circumstances pushes us to the most creative ideas and here you have one of them..
Drive-in concerts; we have seen them in different shapes and sizes. Did you know that The Beach Boys, Snoop Dogg and The Chainsmokers, among many others, have performed for such a parking lot?
Of course, it feels a bit more distant than a ‘real’ concert or festival, but we would certainly have liked to be there!
What about you?
4. Six60 at a Sold Out Sky Stadium
While Europe, America and Asia were still in a (seemingly neverending) lockdown, some big concerts were actually happening… yes, during the pandemic, LIVE CONCERTS!
On February 13 this year the band Six60 performed in a sold-out Sky Stadium in Wellington New Zealand. No social distance, no face mask, just your favourite artist and an audience, just like the “old days”… making the rest of the world jealous as %$^!
Is New Zealand a Corona safe haven?
3. Back to Live Festival
Live music, lukewarm beers, fast food and a your pockets full of tokens. A festival as we know it, without social distancing, masks or Corona worries.
A dream for many, but a reality for those present at the Back to Live pilot event at the Dutch Lowlands Festival site in Biddinghuizen.
Festivalgoers, together with acts like Chef'Special, De Staat, Donnie, Jett Rebel, Maan, Froukje and others, were briefly reminded of the real festival experience as we once knew it.
2. One World: Together At Home
Hosted by Lady Gaga and presented in a partnership with the World Health Organization and Global Citizen: One World: Together At Home. More than 100 of the world's greatest artists came together for a digital benefit concert.
Where exactly did this take place? Simply from both the artists’ and audience’s own living rooms…
The lineup of this digital “Live Aid 2020” was more than impressive: artists such as Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, Céline Dion, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, and even The Rolling Stones raised no less than 118 million Euro to fight the Corona virus. Well done guys, Bob Geldof will be proud!
1. Astronomical
Maybe the name Astronomical doesn’t instantly ring a bell. But perhaps you heard of rapper Travis Scott doing a concert in the video game Fortnite?
A “live” concert in a video game, it wasn’t the first time it happened, but the scale and context of this one, was extraordinary.
A whopping 27.7 million Fortnite players attended the virtual concert on April 23, 24 and 25, 2020. And even though the shows lasted only 10 minutes, they will definitely go down in live music history as a revolution!
Lists like these are never complete. Which Covid-19 concerts and live streams are we overlooking?
Anyway, even though these are 5 memorable concerts, we hope they will be replaced by the real deal rather sooner than later!
Which Corona concert will you never forget?
