5 pre-Covid gigs to remember: the Netherlands

A night out at Paradiso, a sunny day at Pinkpop or a weekend with your best friends at our beloved Down The Rabbit Hole, it's already been two years since we could do even one of those things without any corona worries. You would almost forget what it was like!

So let's take a look back at some of our favourite (and latest) pre-Covid gigs. Just to refresh the memory of what it used to be!

This time: the Netherlands! Which country should we do next?

5. OneRepublic

When? 8/3/2020
Where? TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht

Apologize, All The Right Moves, Secrets and of course Counting Stars, are just a handful of products that came to the hit machine called Ryan Tedder. But those are not his only successes, because in addition to the countless hits with his own band, he is also responsible for several songs by BeyoncΓ©, Ellie Goulding and Adele.

It's no wonder, then, that he makes stadiums filled with exuberant fans tremble. A 'small' stage like Ronda at TivoliVredenburg was therefore no problem in early March 2020!

4. Kaiser Chiefs

When? 16/2/2020
Where? Paradiso, Amsterdam

Kaiser Chiefs, the absolute bosses of the sing-along songs. Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby...!

See!

Both when performing at Paradiso and at TivoliVredenburg, the Kaiser Chiefs don’t exactly get the audience moving the way they would like with their newer music.

However, the men from Leeds have been in the business for a long time and they always have an asset up their sleeve. The album 'employment', success guaranteed!

3. Cage the Elephant

When? 2/3/2020
Where? 013 Poppodium, Tilburg

Front to back and side to side, no millimeter on the podium is safe from Matt Schultz. From the moment he steps on stage with his backpack, he doesn't give 100%, not 110%, but 200% for his fans!

And that backpack he's wearing doesn't just match his hobbit-esque outfit, it also has a useful function.

Because during the gig, while one item of clothing after another flies off, he pulls one outfit after another from the backpack.

That one red striped shirt just looks much better with β€˜There Ain't No Rest For The Wicked!’.

2. Lewis Capaldi

When? 13/2/2020
Where? AFAS Live, Amsterdam

Just days before his performance at AFAS Live, Lewis hit a whopping 1 billion views with his hit song (to put it mildly) 'Someone You Loved'.

Of course that had to be celebrated, and he did, here in the Netherlands, at AFAS Live, were you there?

Yes? You lucky bastard!
No? Too bad for you!

Because Jesus, what a hell of a voice this man has. From high screams to low bass-like tone, Lewis knows how to hit every note flawlessly.

A small minus? His good sense of humor! But huh, why is that a minus? Well, his jokes come at the expense of the number of songs the show counts (12).

We certainly don't mind!

1. Liam Gallagher

When? 7/2/2020
Where? Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam

Thousands of British fans crossed the English Channel to catch a glimpse of one of Oasis frontmen. Still only one of them indeed, unfortunately...

But that didn't make the performance any less good. In fact, the energy was fantastic, the crowd went wild and Liam just did what he does so well, singing songs that you, me, basically anyone can sing along.

With a parka as his armor and armed with a tambourine and maracas, Liam seemed to conquer the Ziggo Dome effortlessly!

But there was really no doubt about that prior to the concert, right?
